Introducing the Citadel
One of the big pieces of feedback last year was how it was frustrating to have new content like champions and equipment drop every month and for there to be no standard way for people to catch up if they missed out on the initial drop. To solve this we are introducing a new tab in the Shop UI called the Citadel. The Citadel features past content as well as some new content (more on that below) that you can grab in exchange for Citadel Marks, the seasonal currency of the Citadel.
Citadel Seasons
Every season (around 3 months) the Citadel will have all the content from the previous season added to its shelves, as well as any new season content that is exclusive to the Citadel.
Citadel Marks
The currency of the Citadel, which can be purchased using gold or found in packs. Like the Citadel, the Marks are seasonal. So Season One Marks you get today can be used to purchase any and all Season One Content. This includes what is in the Citadel now, and what content from Season One we have in the game that is not yet in the Citadel when Season Two starts. When Season Two starts (and all the chests and packs switch over to selling Season Two Marks), all the Season One content will be able to be purchased using either Season One or Season Two marks. This will become more clear as new seasons are added, but the bottom line is:
- Past content moves into the Citadel each season so you always have a means to get and catch up on things you missed.
- A season's Marks can be spent on that Season and past seasons content so they don't expire.
Season One
Our first season, and the grand opening of the Citadel, contains our 3rd Generational Champion Khor'ash Scorchbringer, a new Trebuchet Champ with much of the same increases in stats you have seen on our previous Generation Champs: Commander Terric and Commander Kaori... that is to say: Khor'ash is a very good Champion. As this is our first Season, and therefore there's no content from past seasons to be included in the Citadel, we've put together a mixture of content from the past few months that we believe some of you would appreciate the ability to catch up on. Next season, the two Commanders (Terric and Kaori) and their equipment will be added to the Citadel as Season One content, which you can get using Season One Marks you've saved up (or Season Two Marks when those become available)
Generational Champions
Each season we will introduce three new Champions that we're calling "generational". They are intended to be unlocked early and leveled up over the course of the game and will all result in champs that are a cut above the rest once fully leveled (which will be a longer and more costly in resources and time than "regular" champs). Within a season, one Generational Champion will be exclusive to the Citadel (marks via gold or purchases). One exclusive to Shard Showdowns (highly competitive gameplay), and one exclusive to Battle Passes (ftp solo gameplay). For Season One, Terric is our BP Champ, Kaori is our Shard Showdown Champ, and Khor'ash is our Citadel Champ. When the season ends and three new Generational champs are added, all three from the previous generation will be available in the Citadel. This will let everyone catch up on Terric, Kaori and Khor'ash, as well as all their equipment over the following seasons.
Additional Free Chests
The Citadel also contains some free chests that contain Gold and a Mark, the refreshing of these chests works out to be equivalent to 4 marks a week for free (if the gold is used to buy Marks).
